Shepherd Compello supports Ruben Hage as he progresses through the racing ranks

27th June 2022

2022 sees 17-year-old Ruben Hage make the transition from junior to senior level racing and to help him take this significant step in his motorsport career, Shepherd Compello Motorsport Insurance is supporting him as he contests the ultra-competitive Ginetta G5 Challenge - a series with a reputation of uncovering and nurturing racing stars of the future.

Having started his motorsport journey - as many aspiring youngsters do - in Karts, Ruben also took part in Autograss Racing,  where he developed his car control skills on the loose-surface oval tracks. With podium results under his belt he moved onto ‘proper’ circuits with the Junior Saloon Car Championship, where he also found himself finishing in the top three places.

In recognition of his achievements, Ruben was spotted by British Trouring Car Championship-winning team Power Maxed Racing, who awarded him a place on their prestigious ‘One to Watch’ programme for 2020. But with the season curtailed due to the pandemic, Ruben set his sights on 2021 and after contesting what has been described as the most competitive season in the championship’s history, Ruben finished fourth, just two points behind the eventual champion.

Always looking to progress and ready to embrace new challenges, Ruben stepped-up to the Ginetta G5 Challenge for 2022. Driving a G40 GT5 space-framed sportscar, he joined a grid of more than 20 drivers all in identical machinery, a factor that places the emphasis for success on the driver and team, rather than the make and model of car.

With a season featuring 18 rounds over seven weekends at a combination of British GT Championship and BTCC meetings, races take place in front of 1000s of spectators and professional race teams, who keep a watchful eye out for stars of the future. So far this season Ruben has risen to the challenge with a string of results that have included a podium finish together with a series of 4th, 5th 6th and 7th places - performances that have highlighted his potential and see him lying seventh in the drivers’ standings as the championship takes its summer break.

“I’m delighted to be representing Shepherd Compello Motorsport in the Ginetta GT5 paddock this year”, said Ruben. “Having insurance cover while I’m racing means I can concentrate on my driving whilst knowing that if things don’t go exactly to plan, I’ve the perfect partner behind me.”

In response, Divisional Director for Shepherd Compello Motorsport Insurance Mark Taylor commented: “We are delighted to be partner sponsor for Ruben this year. We are always pleased to support up-and-coming talent, especially at the start of their racing careers. We therefore look forward to watching Ruben as he progresses through the ranks and goes on to achieve his motorsport goals.”
